For the coming school year, two very familiar faces in our district will be serving in new roles. Please join us in congratulating Jennifer Lee and Jeremy Baughman on their new appointments as assistant principals. Mrs. Lee will continue to serve students at Boiling Springs High School, where, most recently, she was a CATE Teacher. Mr. Baughman will be moving from teaching PLTW at Chesnee Middle to his new position at Cooley Springs-Fingerville Elementary. There is no doubt that these two wonderful educators will also be fantastic administrators. #D2DifferenceMakers
D2 Team Members Receive Life-Saving Training
There is no doubt that the safety and well-being of our students is the top priority in D2. With that in mind, our faculty and staff have been receiving CPR training throughout the summer. Our Nursing Director, Christy Lockhart, has been heading up the initiative.
“We offer the class for coaches, especially because they are required to be trained, but is also available to staff and teachers,” Lockhart said. “Each of our buildings likes to have first responders to assist in case of an emergency. In fact, schools try to have at least 2 people per hallway.”
Those that take the training earn a CPR certification while learning about the signs of distress, chest compressions, how to use AEDs (found in all of our buildings), and much more.
“It does my heart good to know that you don't have to be a medical professional, to be willing to help in an emergency. Just your willingness to respond in an emergency is great.”
Lockhart said the desire for so many D2 Team Members to be trained should tell our community a lot about how much we love our students.
“I think that should give them peace of mind to know that in any type emergency, there are people willing and trained to jump in.” #D2DifferenceMakers

Our Boiling Springs Middle School Bulldogs represented their school and D2 so well at the Beta Nationals! #2sGotTalent
"We spent June 23-26 in Nashville, TN competing in sculpture, colored photography, living literature (state champs), and 7th grade Spanish. In order to be eligible to compete at Nationals you must come in 1st-3rd place at state," said BSMS Beta Club sponsor and ML Teacher Evangeline English. "We took 8 students and 9 competed. Sawyer Hames is one happy camper after a very special moment with his football hero!
Sawyer is a huge fan of Chesnee High QB Evan-Reece Lawter. Naturally, when he saw the QB at football camp he had to say something. So, he complimented his cleats.
Unexpectedly, Evan-Reece took the cleats off, signed them, and gave them to Sawyer! #D2isFamily #D2DifferenceMaker

Dr. Dawson serves D2 as the Director of Literacy, MTSS, and ML Education.
"Dr. Dawson works alongside many instructional coaches, teachers, and principals to ensure that all students are getting the best education. Looking at best practices and data as we continue to reach great heights in student achievement is a strength. Her knowledge, support, and ability to lead makes her a tremendous asset to our schools and especially our children," her nomination read in part. "By finding and growing amazing teachers and instructional coaches, Dr. Dawson ensures that programs such as 4K, LETRS, and Countdown to Kindergarten set our students up for success. Her knowledge of literacy, with her commitment to ALL students getting the best learning, you will never doubt that her heart is for kids and creating a bright future for them."

SLA Students Visit Hope Remains Youth Ranch

Before our Spartanburg School District 2 Summer Learning Academy and Reading Camp students even got on the bus, they were buzzing with excitement to get to Hope Remains Ranch to see their new equine friends.
Rising 3rd grader Tate said,” I am most excited to ride the horses and to ride on the hayride."
One of Tate's friends Hayven said, ” I am excited for all of the activities but most definitely being able to ride and walk the horses."
SLA Teacher Mrs. Cash said, "I think this trip will help with the kid's confidence when doing activities while going out of their comfort zones while also helping them build their manners when talking with their friends and other adults.”
While at Hope Remains Ranch, students were able to play in the farmyard, walk and brush minis, participate in a relay race and, most definitely, ride the horses.

Our Spartanburg School District Two Summer Reading Camp (SRC) and Summer Learning Academy (SLA) are underway!
Both programs, welcomed students on June 1. Kelly McLean, an assistant principal in our district, is heading up the SRC based at Carlisle-Foster's Grove Elementary School.
"At SRC students work in smaller groups, so they get more intense instruction," McLean said. "When they come back to their home schools in August, they are more likely to remember how to put words together to make sentences and how to write stories, because they had that on going support for 5 weeks here at SRC."
Emily Brown, an interventionist at Boiling Springs Elementary, is guiding the SLA campus at Chesnee Elementary School.
"Our mission at SLA is to ensure our students to feel safe and loved as we are intentional about pushing them to new academic heights. Our weekly themes of perseverance, citizenship, courage, responsibility, and respect will be woven throughout our daily activities to encourage not just academic success, but also social and emotional growth.," Brown said. "We are excited to partner with families and our community as we celebrate the accomplishments and growth of our students this summer. "
Combined, the SLA and SRC will see more than 400 students receive top tier instruction from more than 70 staff members . McLean said this shows the commitment in our district to Making a Difference for Students Every Day!
"This program would not run without the teachers that are willing to devote their time in the summer. Here they are pouring into kids!"

Near the end of the school year, our Together-for-2 Committee led a district-wide effort to collect donations for the Spartanburg Humane Society. Through the efforts of committee, which is made up of employees from all of our schools, and the incredible generosity of our entire D2 Family, hundreds of pounds of food and other much-needed supplies were collected. #D2DifferenceMakers
Today, those goods were delivered to support the mission of the Human Society.
"Seeing an entire school district come together to help the animals at the Spartanburg Humane Society is far more than a donation drive to us — it is a powerful reminder that compassion, kindness, and community are still being taught, modeled, and lived every single day," said CEO Angel Cox. "We are deeply grateful for your leadership and for a district that is teaching the next generation the value of empathy and service."
"Thank you so much to District 2 for the big and generous donation! As a non-profit, we rely heavily on donations and getting a big influx of supplies allows us to focus our financial efforts to other imperative aspects of our operation like the clinic and the dog behavior program. It means so much to the shelter that the kids of District 2 are such selfless leaders giving back to the community," said shelter manager Joshua Pope. "It is acts like these that keep our operation running, and these students have a DIRECT effect on our animals getting adopted and finding their forever homes. We can't thank you enough!"
